Bodies of work;
This body of work was completed, following the loss of a loved one. Having been a carer for much of my life, I had a crisis of identity. It was a pivotal moment in my career and in my life.
This body also explores the different phases of loss that occur as our loved ones are not often taken away suddenly, but in waves. Slowly elements of their physical being, or their mind are taken from them and they from us .
Most of my work comes down to the exploration of identity. I examined my role as a carer, through the process of grief, loss and dementia, and grew from the healing power of art. I proceeded to discover my own intersectionality under the themes of religion, gender, nationality, conflict and disability. Is our identity where we grew up? What we do or can do? What happens when our physical abilities are stripped away? How much of who we are or what we believe is inherited or taught and how much comes from inside? I am inspired by the journey we travel together and the one we travel alone, the human experience and how well we know ourselves.
